Isn’t ironic how things can be going so well in your life and then BAM something stops you in your tracks?
Ah yes, that credit monster is relentless. The other day I got a lawsuit in the mail…ugh.
It’s from a $1200 unpaid balance on a Best Buy credit card that I had gotten when I was 2001 for my first laptop. I was in college and broke at the time I let the account go bad, didn’t know anything about credit and had basically forgotten about it until this year. The account had been passed through collection agency to another and finally a lawyer bought it for probably $200 and realized that the statute of limitations was almost up and decided to hurry and file. So now I’m deciding how I want to respond to it because I don’t feel like I should be paying the extra $1,200 of interest that has been tacked on to the account through the years. I especially don’t feel very obliged to pad some lawyers pocket. This week I’m scouring the internet and some other resources to see what my options are for settling…it’d be great if I could just pay my balance directly to Best Buy! Well, wish me luck. Even though it sucks, it does feel cleansing to take care of old debt like this! If you have any advice or have gone through a similar lawsuit, contact me…please!
Well, it’s a beautiful day here in sunny Madison, WI and I’m going out for some much needed fresh air…at least THATS free.
