Simple Ways to Save Money on Gas

Can you believe that the average gas price is now $4 per gallon?! When I used to sneak my parents’ car out at night when I was 16 I only had to shell out about $1 per gallon to make sure they wouldn’t notice my midnight joyrides ;) Here are some quick tips that you can put into action today to save some dollars this month on fuel.

  • Extend the life of your car and maintain fuel efficiency with regular tune ups, oil changes and belt changes.
  • Check out area gas prices for the best deal by visiting Gas Buddy or Gas Price Watch
  • Slow down. Cars are a lot more fuel efficient at 65 mph on the highway than 80 mph. Use cruise control if you have it and don’t break hard for exit ramps and stop lights.
  • Track your mileage by jotting down your odometer reading next time you fill up. You can also use online services like My Mile Marker and Fuel Frog.
  • Go green by carpooling or giving your public transit system a whirl. If you have one, hop online and check out the routes for your daily commute or see if there are any carpools available in your area by logging onto sites like eRideShare or Carpool Connect.

As a longtime carpooler myself, I’m fascinated to see more and more people trying it out. I live in oakland (bay area, ca) where we have an unofficial ‘casual carpool’ system where you don’t need to plan out carpool partners or a time - you just show up and match people to cars. It’s the best thing ever! Check it out: http://vlane.com/blogs_article/97/cool-commutes-casual-carpool

I’m also considering using a specialized copywriting software called Glyphius. Has anyone had any experience with this? It is supposed to use statistical analysis to optimize the wording of your advertising copy. I’d be interested in hearing any feedback, good or bad. Thanks

The Hoss and Mrs. Hoss are about to go to our summer home at a beautiful lake in British Columbia. OK, what does this have do to withing saving gas? In past years we would drive home once a week for supplies and return within one or two days. We now come home once a week or so and stay home 5 to 7 days. So instead of 4 to 5 round trips per month we have one or two. Considerable savings.
Downside, only have dial up at the lake without high speed. Talk about slow.

    The Hoss
