5 Personal Finance Books You Should Read While Getting Out of Debt

Be Debt Free

I don’t care how goal-oriented, focused and right brained you think you are…getting out of debt can be down right frustrating, depressing and overwhelming. Acknowledging your debt means admitting your mistakes, bad habits and possibly dealing with an emotional time in your life that caused the debt such as job loss, divorce or in my case…love. Yep, love can be expensive! The relationship didn’t last but the credit card bills from the weekend get aways, movie theatres, restaurants and vacation sure stuck around ;)

While on your journey to being debt-free, here is a little inspirational reading that can help lift spirits and help you refocus. Remember to check out your local library for and save some money!

Your Money Your Life - Personal Finance

Your Money or Your Life by Dominguez and Robin
Forget AA’s 12 step program! Your Money or Your Life outlines a simplistic, 9 step program for people to empower themselves by transforming their relationship with money and material priorities into a healthy one. The book is also full of real-life experiences of people who have followed the program to financial independence.

The Joy of Simple Living by Jeff Davidson
Getting out of debt means simplifying and getting back to the basics. This book actually covers a wide range of topics that talk about several ways to save money and is a great resource for reading about ways to eliminate daily hassles, organize your possessions, streamline your work habits, save money and reduce stress. I bet I wouldn’t have bought so many cafe mocha’s in the morning if I had been more organized and able to create enough time in the morning to make a pot of coffee ;)

Getting Things Done by David Allen
This book rocks in so many ways. I bought it, read it, read it again and have put Allen’s methods into action in my own life. If you are a procrastinator, juggle a lot of projects or feel that you are not achieving all that you want to then this book is for you. Whether it’s reassessing financial goals or daily tasks, you can transform the way you work and live without wearing yourself down.

I enjoyed reading “Your Money Counts” by Howard Dayton.

I need some Guest Blog Posters, I’ll be out of town in Brazil next week. Send me a post to the email on this comment if you are interested.

    Thanks,
    Sam
