Over at Bankrate, there is a great article that discusses ways to create small savings, month in and month out that can fatten your bank account to create an emergency fund or cash for investing! Here are some of great suggestions to save up money:
Check out materials from the library
The next time you plan to buy or rent a movie, head over to your local library instead and borrow the video for free. If you borrowed just two books or movies a month that you would otherwise buy or rent, you could save $120 to $240 per year.
Use Those Grocery Coupons
You know those coupons that shoot out of the printer when you get your reciept at the grocery store? Or all of those clipper magazines and valupacks that you toss into the recycling bin every month? You could easily save hundreds of dollars a year if you took the time to shop a little smarter!

Dear future, you suck and I want simplicity back. After years of being frustrated by my banks ever increasing fees, overdraft charges, customer service and cost for ATM withdrawls, I am going back to cash. You know, those paper thingers you can pad your wallet with and count with your fingerse. This week I had debit charges come in long after I had swiped my card (about 4 days) which resulted in me miscalculating my available funds and creating relentless overdrafts. Yep, I am the idiot that paid $40 for a cup of java.
So as I cut up my debit card and watched the pieces float into my garbage can, I was overcome by a mix of emotions. I felt closure, peace, freedom as well as fear and detachment. This month is going to be very, very interesting…
Sometimes you come across useful information that will save you time and money that makes you giddy and want to share it with everyone you know. This is one of those times. It’s pretty simple really, just a feature that people have been using for years on Google but when you use the hack with Craigslist it’s really, really powerful whether you are looking for a job, a free TV or tickets for a concert! Sure, you could use the search function on Craigslist but this way gives you a little more control.
Here ya go:
site:craigslist.org “search terms”
Or you can narrow it down:
site:[yourcity].craigslist.org [search terms]
Or filter out flagged listings with a delimiter like:
-”has been flagged”
Another option is using sites like Crazedlist.org or Craigshelper.com too.

Can you believe that the average gas price is now $4 per gallon?! When I used to sneak my parents’ car out at night when I was 16 I only had to shell out about $1 per gallon to make sure they wouldn’t notice my midnight joyrides
Here are some quick tips that you can put into action today to save some dollars this month on fuel.
- Extend the life of your car and maintain fuel efficiency with regular tune ups, oil changes and belt changes.
- Check out area gas prices for the best deal by visiting Gas Buddy or Gas Price Watch
- Slow down. Cars are a lot more fuel efficient at 65 mph on the highway than 80 mph. Use cruise control if you have it and don’t break hard for exit ramps and stop lights.
- Track your mileage by jotting down your odometer reading next time you fill up. You can also use online services like My Mile Marker and Fuel Frog.
- Go green by carpooling or giving your public transit system a whirl. If you have one, hop online and check out the routes for your daily commute or see if there are any carpools available in your area by logging onto sites like eRideShare or Carpool Connect.
